Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in prep girls basketball. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2023-24 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Dee Alexander of
Purcell Marian (Cincinnati) is the 2023-24 Ohio MaxPreps Player of the Year for the second straight season. The 6-foot-1 junior guard led the Cavaliers to a 28-1 record and third straight Division II championship.
For the season, Alexander averaged 18.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game. She shot 60.4 percent from the field with a high of 28 points in a win over Doral Academy (Doral, Fla.) in December.

Despite playing just 19 minutes in the state final due to foul trouble, Alexander managed to produce 18 points and six rebounds to lead the Cavaliers to a 79-52 win over Laurel (Shaker Heights).
Behind Alexander, Purcell Marian is 81-4 over the past three seasons. She has been named Ms. Basketball in Ohio each of the past two years.
Widely regarded as a top five prospect in the Class of 2025, Alexander narrowed her recruitment to 15 schools including Arizona, Connecticut, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee and USC.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which is scheduled to be released April 11. Past selections include 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player Breanna Stewart (2012) as well as 2023 All-WNBA first team picks Napheesa Collier (2015), Alyssa Thomas (2010) and A'ja Wilson (2014).
