The Highline Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 66-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Decatur. The match was a 40-40 toss-up at halftime, but Highline was outscored by Decatur in the second.
Highline's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Corey Crosby, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 21 rebounds, and Marquawn Mccraney who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. The matchup was Crosby's sixth in a row with at least ten points.
Decatur's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tai' Saun Wilkerson, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Wilkerson also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Dominique Degrate was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Highline bumped their record down to 1-7 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Decatur, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 2-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Highline's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Interlake at 11:30 a.m. on December 27th. Decatur won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Beamer at 6:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Beamer knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three games -- so hopefully Decatur likes a good challenge.
