II Section II recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Santa Rita, who took down 102nd ranked Santa Rita, 50-42.
Salpointe Catholic extended the longest winning streak in II Section II this week by beating Ironwood Ridge, 30-14. The victory was the 10th in a row for the Lancers.
Jose Ruiz was the best wideout in the league this week as Sahuaro lost to Sabino. Ruiz tallied four receptions for 88 yards. Lucas Smith helped Sahuaro's passing attack out by catching one ball for 54 yards.
Cody Rochon put up the best numbers through the air as Mountain View topped Cholla. He finished with five completions for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Rochon's favorite target this week was Zach Ayers, who caught two passes for 46 yards.
Johnny Pena was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 37 carries, he ran for 187 yards as Salpointe Catholic lost to the Sabercats. Teammate Andrew Cota added to the ground attack by rushing for 52 yards.
Cienega's Adriell Alvarado and Luke Holley have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading II Section II in both passing and receiving yards. Alvarado has thrown for 1663 yards this season, while Holley, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 46 catches for 705 yards. Richie Estrada from the Mountain Lions leads the league in rushing with 1544 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Bobcats take on Mountain View. As it stands, Cienega is in third, while the Mountain Lions are in fifth.
Desert View made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,588 from 9,291. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 50-42 victory over the Eagles last week.
