The Hopi Bruins were the 61-53 winner over the Red Mesa Redskins when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Hopi fell to Red Mesa 49-44. Hopi has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Red Mesa to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nizhoni Hatalie, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Those eight rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Shyla Pipkin, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 17 rebounds.
Hopi has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Red Mesa, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hopi will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Pinon at 6:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024. As for Red Mesa, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Music Mountain at 3:00 p.m. on December 15th. Music Mountain comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
