Basketball Game Preview: Lewis Cass Kings vs. Maconaquah Braves

The Lewis Cass Kings will take on the Maconaquah Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lewis Cass is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Logansport: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Lewis Cass blew Logansport out of the water with a 46-14 final score. Given the Kings' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while the Berries are ranked 348th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lewis Cass can attribute much of their success to Mylie Sipe, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds, and Ava Hubner, who posted 11 points along with six boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Hubner a new career-high in points. Aftin Griffin was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Lewis Cass smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Maconaquah hadn't done well against Northwestern recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Maconaquah walked away with a 58-50 victory over Northwestern.

Maconaquah is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.2 points per game. As for Lewis Cass, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 15-6.

Lewis Cass was able to grind out a solid victory over Maconaquah in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 42-29. Will Lewis Cass repeat their success, or does Maconaquah have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
