The Saguaro Sabercats are taking a road trip to face off against the Perry Pumas at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Saguaro has given up an average of 12.3 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Saguaro proved they can win big on Monday (they won by 17) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Crismon 17-16. 17 seems to be a good number for the Sabercats as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Hailey Holliday was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Sophia Chiouinard also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Saguaro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in seven consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Perry gave up the first runs last Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 5-1 win over Williams Field. The Pumas haven't had any issues with the Black Hawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Julianna Nava spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on zero hits and racked up 19 Ks. Those 19 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maycie Boblitt, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in RBI. Another player making a difference was Brynlee Brassfield, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Saguaro is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. Perry's record now sits at 8-4.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Saguaro hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .392. However, it's not like Perry struggles in that department as they've averaged .415. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
