The Sahuarita Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their 12th straight defeat. They fell just short of Rio Rico by a score of 63-60. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Sahuarita has suffered since December 15, 2023.
Sahuarita's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alejandro Vega, who scored 15 points along with five steals. Vega is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Trevizo, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Rio Rico's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Angel Valenzuela, who scored ten points along with five assists and three steals. Valenzuela is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games he's played. Jacob Ley was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Sahuarita's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-22. As for Rio Rico, their victory bumped their record up to 5-18.
Sahuarita does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rio Rico, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mica Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mica Mountain will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Rio Rico surely won't give up without a fight.
