Softball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Valley

Valley had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Jefferson Hawks an 11-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won four games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Tealey Schwingendorf was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Schwingendorf was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run.

In other batting news, Mack Mohler was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Brynn Cibula was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Valley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive matchups.

Valley's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Jefferson, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valley will challenge Waukee at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Jefferson, they will square off against Xavier at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
