The Lawrence County Red Devils and the Pleasant Grove Spartans squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Lawrence County Red Devils had to settle for second. Lawrence County had to suffer through a rough 49-17 loss at the hands of Pleasant Grove. While losing is never fun, Lawrence County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 168th, while Pleasant Grove is ranked 30th).
Pleasant Grove's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Eric Handley, who threw for 397 yards and five touchdowns while completing 77.4% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Collin Moore, who gained 193 total yards and two touchdowns.
Lawrence County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Pleasant Grove, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Lawrence County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Pleasant Grove will take on Boaz at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Boaz is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
