In what's become a running theme this season, the Evangel Christian Lightning gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. Everything went their way against Southern Christian as Evangel Christian made off with a 47-23 win. The win was just what Evangel Christian needed coming off of a 55-22 loss in their prior contest.
Evangel Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hannah Benson, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Hallie Wells, who scored 13 points.
Southern Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Camdyn Oswald, who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Oswald, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Evangel Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Southern Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Evangel Christian will square off against Edgewood Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Edgewood Academy is on a nine-game streak of home wins, Evangel Christian a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Southern Christian, Southern Christian and Springwood will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Springwood presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Southern Christian in Alabama (Springwood is ranked 122nd, while Southern Christian is ranked 321st).
