The Spring Garden Panthers will head out to face off against the Weaver Bearcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Weaver will be up against a hot Spring Garden squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went the Panthers' way against Faith Christian on Thursday as they made off with a 19-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won six matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Meanwhile, Weaver got the win against Ragland on Monday by a conclusive 11-4.
Connor Hyatt and Tucker Michaels were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Hyatt tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Michaels struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Hyatt also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Weaver is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. At the plate, Hyatt got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run, while Michaels went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Michaels has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Weaver let Zane Hairrell and Braylen Gregory run wild. Hairrell got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Gregory got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Hairrell has become a key player for Weaver: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Peyton Andrews was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Weaver always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ragland only posted an OBP of .241.
Weaver now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Spring Garden, their record now sits at 9-11.
Spring Garden got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 against Weaver by a conclusive 21-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
