Baseball Recap: Devon Prep Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Devon Prep had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the Archbishop Carroll Patriots. That's two games straight that the Tide have won by exactly five runs.

John Doogan tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Billy Degler was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Christian Leckman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Devon Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Devon Prep pushed their record up to 7-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Archbishop Carroll, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-10.

Devon Prep has already played their next contest, a 12-2 victory against Cardinal O'Hara on the 8th. Archbishop Carroll does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
