It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Portage had no problem doing just that  on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with  a  5-4  win over the Williamsburg Blue Pirates. The  victory was familiar territory for Portage who now have five in a row.
  Paige Phillips was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she  struck out 11 batters over  nine innings while giving up  four earned runs off   seven  hits (and not a single walk). Phillips has been consistent recently: she hasn't  given up  more than two  walks in ten consecutive pitching appearances. Phillips was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-4 with a  home run.
 In other batting news,  Tori Harrison and  Lyndsey Castel did most of the damage at the plate:  Harrison  scored two  runs and  stole a base while going 3-for-5, while  Castel  went 2-for-5 with a  triple, a  stolen base,  and  an  RBI. Another player making a difference was  Kendall Stancovich, who  went 1-for-4 with two  stolen bases and  an  RBI.
 Portage's win was  their third straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 10-11. As for Williamsburg, they are  on  a  ten-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 4-13.
 Portage didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  matchup,  an  8-1  defeat vs. Conemaugh Valley on the 20th. Williamsburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
