Vanguard is 8-2 against Leesburg since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Vanguard Knights are on the road again and plays the Leesburg Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Vanguard walked away with it. They walked away with a 34-23 victory over the Bulldogs on Monday.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vanguard to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jerkiah Richardson, who scored 14 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Richardson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniyah Hope, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, Leesburg waltzed into their contest last Tuesday with eight straight wins but they left with nine. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 67-39 victory over Mount Dora Christian Academy. Leesburg has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matchups by 24 points or more this season.
Vanguard's win bumped their record up to 5-15. As for Leesburg, they pushed their record up to 20-1 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home.
Vanguard took their victory against Leesburg when the teams last played back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 45-19. The rematch might be a little tougher for Vanguard since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
