Baseball Game Preview: Wyomissing Spartans vs. Reading Red KNights

Wyomissing is a perfect 3-0 against Reading since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Red KNights at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Wyomissing has four straight wins, Reading has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Wednesday, Wyomissing needed a bit of extra time to put away Berks Catholic. They came out on top against the Saints by a score of 5-2. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Saints on their field since May 10, 2021.

The team relied heavily on Derek Macrina, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, Reading came up short against Governor Mifflin on Friday and fell 6-1.

Reading saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Janser Paredes, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Joset Pagan also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Wyomissing's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Reading, their loss dropped their record down to 5-15.

Reading's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Wyomissing has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .466. It's a different story for Reading, though, as they've only averaged .363. Will they be able to contain Wyomissing's hitters?

Wyomissing took their victory against Reading in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-5 score. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Red KNights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
