Baseball Recap: Kress Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Kress waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Claude Mustangs as they made off with a 17-1 win. The game was the first time the Kangaroos have beaten the Mustangs on their field since March 28, 2022.

Drew Morphis was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Kress is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-8 otherwise. Morphis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other pitching news, Kingston Brumley looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Kress: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 4-8 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Xane Garcia was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Malachi Guzman was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Kress always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Claude only posted an OBP of .263.

Kress' victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-9. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Claude, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-10-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Kress beat the Mustangs by a score of 11-1 on Thursday.
