Hannah Carbaugh and Ani Rogers made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Carbaugh struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Meanwhile, Rogers pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2025. At the plate, Carbaugh went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Rogers went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Rogers has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.
In other batting news, Laytonville got a massive performance out of Cherysh Spiker, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run. Spiker is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Brigid Henry was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Laytonville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .464. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .464 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, while Willits put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Round Valley. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 25-0 victory.
Abigail Sherf was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Sherf was even better at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexandra Ramos, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Chloe Wright, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Laytonville's record now sits at 5-2. As for Willits, their record is now 9-4.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Laytonville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .577. However, it's not like Willits struggles in that department as they've averaged .485. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Laytonville suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Willits when the teams last played back in March. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
