The Grafton Clippers will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Jamestown Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Grafton will be strutting in after a victory while Jamestown will be coming in after a loss.
Grafton's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Tabb and snuck past 16-13. The victory was just what Grafton needed coming off of a 35-6 defeat in their prior match.
Grafton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makale Barnett, who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Jaden Brown, who picked up 131 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Jamestown fell victim to Lafayette's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 61-0 loss at the hands of the Rams. While losing is never fun, Jamestown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia football rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while Lafayette is ranked 49th).
Even if they lost, Jamestown's defensive line still kept up the pressure with five sacks. Lafayette's QB won't forget Conner (cj) Peay anytime soon given Peay sacked him five times.
Grafton's win bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Jamestown, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Grafton has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 187 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Jamestown, though, as they've been averaging only 78 per game. How will Jamestown fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Grafton against Jamestown in their previous matchup back in September of 2022 as the squad secured a 47-3 victory. Does Grafton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Jamestown turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
