Basketball Recap: West Tallahatchie Takes a Loss

West Tallahatchie lost against Palmer back in November and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The West Tallahatchie Choctaws took a 70-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Palmer Dragons.

Despite the defeat, West Tallahatchie saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Roosevelt Phillips dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for Phillips. Another player making a difference was Jayden Sample, who went 7 of 17 en route to 19 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, West Tallahatchie smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Palmer's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jalean Tweedy led the charge by dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Tweedy's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cornelius Emerson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.

West Tallahatchie's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Palmer, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5.

West Tallahatchie wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 67-62 defeat against South Delta on the 17th. As for Palmer, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-63 loss against West Tallahatchie on the 18th.
