It was a good run, but the Carrboro Jaguars unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to Southern Durham 46-42. Carrboro lost against the Spartans in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 54-29 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Carrboro saw an underclassman step up: Yazmin Paisant dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Carrboro smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Durham only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Briana Hughes continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Southern Durham, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Hughes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Rah?shea Christopher, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three blocks.
Carrboro's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Southern Durham, they pushed their record up to 12-5 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Carrboro has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Vipers at 5:00 p.m. on February 2nd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in North Carolina (Vance County is ranked 163rd, while the Jaguars are ranked 183rd). As for Southern Durham, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. J.F. Webb has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
