Softball Game Preview: Sandalwood Saints vs. Riverside Generals

Sandalwood is a perfect 4-0 against Riverside since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Saints will square off against the Generals at 6:00 p.m. Sandalwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Sandalwood made easy work of Orange Park and carried off a 17-7 win. Considering the Saints have won six matches by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Emmie Dawley was incredible, firing off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Annie Bascon, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Dawley wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Sandalwood lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Riverside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Christ's Church Academy, falling 18-2.

A Miller was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. A Jackson also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Sandalwood is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Riverside, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Everything went Sandalwood's way against Riverside in their previous matchup back in March, as Sandalwood made off with an 18-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
