Campbell is a perfect 6-0 against Nanakuli since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Sabers will be playing at home against the Golden Hawks at 3:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Campbell has four straight victories, Nanakuli has 17 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Campbell is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Hawaii's top teams: Wai'anae, who was ranked 19th at the time (Campbell was ranked second). The Sabers were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Seariders on Thursday. Considering the Sabers have won five matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kaienna Fuentes-Arellano made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and one stolen base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Alo, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. Dalexy Sanchez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Campbell hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Nanakuli lost 11-1 to Kapolei on Saturday.
Nanakuli saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaisha Barrozo, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI. That double was Barrozo's first of the season. Another was Maria 'Momo' Felisi-Enriquez, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Campbell's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. As for Nanakuli, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
Nanakuli's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Campbell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. It's a different story for Nanakuli, though, as they've only averaged .245. Will they be able to contain Campbell's hitters?
Campbell took their win against Nanakuli in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 21-10 score. Will the Sabers repeat their success, or do the Golden Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
