The Curlew Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Inchelium Hornets at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Curlew comes in on 16 and Inchelium on four.
Curlew put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They put the hurt on Northport with a sharp 56-31 win. Given Curlew's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Northport is ranked 294th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Annika Baker and Emma Lena Baker were among the main playmakers for Curlew as the former scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and four steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 steals. Baker has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 16 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Calhoun, who scored five points along with five assists and two steals.
Inchelium posted their biggest win yet this season on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 65-42 margin over Republic. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Inchelium has posted against Republic since February 12, 2020.
Curlew's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.4 points per game. As for Inchelium, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Curlew beat Inchelium 49-38 in their previous meeting on January 5th. The rematch might be a little tougher for Curlew since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
