Even though the Mesquite Wildcats have not done well against the Gilbert Tigers recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Mesquite walked away with a 66-55 win over Gilbert. The win was nothing new for Mesquite as they're now sitting on four straight.
Mesquite was led to victory by Christian Garven and Jaylen Wollangk. Garven scored 20 points along with four steals, while Wollangk scored 17 points along with four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Desean Middlebrook, who scored ten points along with three blocks.
Mesquite is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Gilbert, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mesquite won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Campo Verde at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Gilbert will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Perry at 7:00 p.m. on January 4, 2024.
