Las Plumas has gone a perfect 4-0 against Live Oak recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Thunderbirds will head out on the road to challenge the Lions at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Las Plumas' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Orland with a sharp 7-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Thunderbirds.
The result came thanks to Kendal Headley's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brooklyn Atteberry and Presley Carlson did most of the damage at the plate: Atteberry went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Carlson went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Aeries Brewton, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.
Las Plumas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orland only posted an OBP of .200.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Live Oak, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Oroville 8-2 on Tuesday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Melina Jurado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Alexa Medina was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Oliviah Jurado was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Las Plumas pushed their record up to 20-3 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Live Oak, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Las Plumas has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Live Oak struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Las Plumas' way against Live Oak in their previous meeting back in April, as Las Plumas made off with a 17-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunderbirds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
