Little River is 7-1 against Goessel since October of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Little River Redskins will head out on the road to face off against the Goessel Bluebirds at 8:00 p.m. Goessel took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Little River, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Little River got themselves on the board against Pretty Prairie, but Pretty Prairie never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 46-0 win over the Bulldogs at home. Given Little River's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Pretty Prairie is ranked 99th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Andrew Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 172 yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries. Smith was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 69 yards. Kyler Bergkamp also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Goessel fell victim to Moundridge's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 48-0 loss at the hands of the Wildcats. Having soared to a lofty 46 points in the game before, Goessel couldn't push the score so high this time.
The win makes it two in a row for Little River and bumps their season record up to 5-2. They've been dominating across those matches too: they took their wins by an average of 48 points. Goessel has been struggling this season, as they've lost six of their first seven contests, which leaves them at a 1-6 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Little River against Goessel when the teams last played back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 60-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Little River since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
