The Steward Spartans pushed their score all the way to 59 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 63-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Menchville. Steward has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Steward lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Sanai Green, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Tori West was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Steward has fallen quite a ways from their 23-10 record last season and are now at 5-9. As for Menchville, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-2.
Steward will head out on the road to take on Walsingham Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Walsingham Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Steward is ranked 59th). As for Menchville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gloucester at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
