After only a single point in their last match, the Carver Tigers made sure to put some points up on the board against the Calvary Christian Knights on Thursday. Carver breezed by Calvary Christian at home to the tune of 88-22. Given Carver's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Calvary Christian is ranked 348th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tony Montgomery went supernova for Carver, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 13 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Montgomery has scored at least 25% of Carver's points. Champ Simpson was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with 3 steals.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Dylan Walls, who scored 7 points along with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Tj Benson, who scored 5 points along with 5 rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Carver and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Calvary Christian, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Carver will take on Upson-Lee at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Calvary Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Wiregrass at 5:00 p.m.
