Ardrey Kell and Independence are an even 3-3-1 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. Ardrey Kell will be playing at home against Independence at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ardrey Kell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Ardrey Kell is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Porter Ridge just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 5-4.
Ardrey Kell saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenna Volturno, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Even though they lost, Ardrey Kell hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in nine consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Independence waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They blew past the Bulldogs 15-4. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won eight games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Maliyah Alexander made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Sydnee Platt was incredible, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Natalie Johnson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Ardrey Kell's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Independence, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Ardrey Kell has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.2 hits per game. However, it's not like Independence struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.2 hits.
