Maclay and Wakulla are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2021, but likely not for long. The Marauders will venture away from home to face off against the War Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Maclay is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Maclay took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They skirted past North Florida Christian 1-0. The victory continues a trend for the Marauders in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won four in a row.
Not much got past Jack Koon, who gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks to keep North Florida Christian off the board. Koon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Maclay's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Tucker Poppell, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Wakulla was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They lost 9-2 to Bartram Trail. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the War Eagles have suffered since March 4, 2025.
Maclay's victory bumped their record up to 14-6. As for Wakulla, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Maclay has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Wakulla struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Maclay came out on top in a nail-biter against Wakulla when the teams last played back in February, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Marauders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
