After a string of six wins, the Chicago Academy Cougars's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. The game between Chicago Academy and Lake View wasn't particularly close, with Chicago Academy falling 55-37. Chicago Academy has struggled against Lake View recently, as their game on Monday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Chicago Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ariana Avila, who scored three points along with ten rebounds and five steals. Avila hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Destiny Rodriguez, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Leading Lake View to victory were Jada Marrero and Imariz Duran. Marrero scored 18 points, while Duran scored 19 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Duran has scored at least a third of Lake View's points.
Chicago Academy's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Lake View, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chicago Academy will challenge Steinmetz College Prep at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Steinmetz College Prep is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. Lake View won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against North Grand at 5:00 p.m. on January 9th. North Grand comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
