If the Esparto Spartans were riding high off their 48-28 takedown of the San Juan Spartans last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Esparto suffered a tough 60-40 defeat at the hands of Vacaville Christian on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Esparto has suffered since December 18, 2023.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cohen Sihapanya, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Sihapanya continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Angel Torres was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Brian Laxamana was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 18 rebounds for Vacaville Christian. Laxamana has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tai Douglas, who scored nine points along with six assists and five steals.
Esparto's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Vacaville Christian, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-9.
Esparto will square off against Golden Sierra at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Golden Sierra has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Vacaville Christian, they will be playing at home against Highlands at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
