Belleview Christian has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Byers Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Belleview Christian had to suffer through a rough 59-18 loss at the hands of Front Range Christian. Belleview Christian was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-12.
Belleview Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jagga Sandhu, who picked up 188 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and Collin Polson who threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Byers on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Gilpin County out of the water with a 62-0 final score. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Byers had established a 56 point advantage.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Byers to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aj Engle, who picked up 179 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Engle was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 68 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Long, who threw for 179 yards and three touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Byers' victory bumped their season record to 5-1 while Belleview Christian's defeat dropped theirs to 3-3.
Belleview Christian was taken down by Byers 52-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Belleview Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
