The Floydada Whirlwinds will square off against the Colorado Wolves on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Floydada is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They blew past Post 10-3. The win was nothing new for the Whirlwinds as they're now sitting on six straight.
Bella Perez was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Floydada was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Post only posted a batting average of .160.
Meanwhile, Colorado had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 13-7 margin over the Tigers. That's two games straight that the Wolves have won by exactly six runs.
Mia Obenhaus made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over nine innings while giving up seven earned runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, Taelynn Oden and Alexis Martinez did most of the damage at the plate: Oden went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Martinez went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Oden a new career-high. Aj Goodney was another key player, going 2-for-6 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Floydada's victory bumped their record up to 29-6. As for Colorado, their win bumped their record up to 24-7-1.
Saturday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Floydada has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like Colorado struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Floydada might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Colorado in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Whirlwinds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
