The Wheeler Mustangs can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent match on Tuesday. They breezed by Amarillo Collegiate Academy at home to the tune of 63-35. Given Wheeler's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 572nd, while Amarillo Collegiate Academy is ranked 1615th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wheeler's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marshall Mcneil, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Barrett Meadows, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Loss or not, Amarillo Collegiate Academy got some senior leadership from Leland Brashears and Ashton Holtman. Brashears scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and four steals, while Holtman. scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Amarillo Collegiate Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Wheeler's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. As for Amarillo Collegiate Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheeler will square off against Wellington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wellington is coming into the match hot, having won their last nine games. As for Amarillo Collegiate Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Immanuel Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Immanuel Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Friday.
