The Leon Lions will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Maclay Marauders at 7:00 p.m. Leon is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
Leon suffered their biggest defeat since December 13, 2023 on Tuesday. They were the victim of a tough 56-31 defeat at the hands of Godby.
Despite the defeat, Leon had strong showings from Tanner Owens, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four blocks, and Aneila Pierre, who scored seven points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Maclay beat North Bay Haven Academy 43-30 on Tuesday. The win was just what Maclay needed coming off of a 53-20 defeat in their prior match.
Lauren Guyer continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Maclay's points. Molly McDonald was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Leon's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-15. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.4 points per game. As for Maclay, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Leon have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.3 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Maclay, though, as they've been averaging only 10.5 rebounds per game. Given Leon's sizeable advantage in that area, Maclay will need to find a way to close that gap.
Leon beat Maclay 42-35 when the teams last played on January 4th. Will Leon repeat their success, or does Maclay have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
