Triad is on a nine-game streak of home losses (dating back to last season), Northeastern a 14-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Triad Cardinals will take on the Northeastern Jets at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Triad suffered their biggest loss since November 29, 2023 on Wednesday. They were dealt a 76-43 defeat at the hands of Mechanicsburg. While losing is never fun, Triad can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 628th, while Mechanicsburg is ranked 76th).
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Mia LeMay, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlyn McCoy, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northeastern had to suffer through a rough 47-17 loss at the hands of Greeneview.
Jaelynn Bobst was Northeastern's leading scorer, having posted five points.
Tyler Pollock held things down on the boards with six rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Triad has not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Northeastern, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Triad have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 33.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Northeastern, though, as they've been averaging only 22.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Triad against Northeastern in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 45-16 victory. Does Triad have another victory up their sleeve, or will Northeastern turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
