Brody Costantine got the start for University and what a start it was: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Costantine has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Jaiden Palmer was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Aaden Shaw, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Spruce Creek). They never let West Port get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory on Tuesday. The Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten games by six runs or more this season.
Aidan Giedrys looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
On the hitting side, Luke Loeb was a standout: he went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Joe Christen also deserves some recognition as he hit his first doubles of the season.
Spruce Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
University's record now sits at 14-10. As for Spruce Creek, their record is now 23-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. University has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Spruce Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
University suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Spruce Creek in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
