Sylvania had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-13 to make it six. They lost 17-1 to the Collinsville Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 on Tuesday.
Sylvania saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Troy Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was Williams' first of the season.
As for Collinsville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-2. Considering they have won nine games by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Collinsville's side, Mason McAteer and Brantley Daugherty made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, McAteer tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Daugherty tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. McAteer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, McAteer went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Daugherty got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave McAteer a new career-high.
In other batting news, Collinsville let Jeremiah Killian and Gavin Lang run wild. Killian went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Lang went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave Killian a new career-high. Jacob Niles was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Coming up, Sylvania will face off against Geraldine at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Collinsville, they will take on Plainview at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
