The Decatur Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Burkburnett Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Decatur is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
Monday just wasn't the day for Decatur's offense. They lost 6-0 to Springtown on Monday. Considering the last time the Eagles couldn't score was back in February, the team can't take the result too hard.
Alexa Beeson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits.

At the plate, Decatur saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Steele, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Steele has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Renlee Longenbaugh also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Burkburnett had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Lions as they made off with a 15-2 victory. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Kennedy Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and one double while going 3-for-4. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tatum Winney, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Reitz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Burkburnett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in four consecutive matches.
This is the second loss in a row for Decatur and nudges their season record down to 12-7. As for Burkburnett, their record is now 14-16.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Decatur has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Burkburnett struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Decatur might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Burkburnett when the teams last played back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
