The Frankfort Falcons will venture away from home to face off against the Lincoln Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Frankfort is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Frankfort took on Robert C. Byrd on Friday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Falcons have won eight matches by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Avery Noel made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Frankfort got a massive performance out of Tayler Likens, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. Rylee Mangold also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Frankfort kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
St. Marys hit Lincoln with a four-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Riley Pearlman was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run. Another player making a difference was Kerstyn Leggett, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
Frankfort pushed their record up to 11-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Lincoln, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Frankfort has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Frankfort was able to grind out a solid win over Lincoln when the teams last played back in April of 2019, winning 4-0. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
