Riverside-Durham hasn't had much luck against Jordan recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Riverside-Durham comes in on five and Jordan on eight.
Riverside-Durham is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Durham Academy on Wednesday as they made off with a 28-9 win. The result was nothing new for the Pirates, who have now won seven matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Paisley Russell, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Juleah Somers, who got on base in all six of her plate appearances with six runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.
Riverside-Durham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .635. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Jordan got the win against East Chapel Hill on Tuesday by a conclusive 15-6. The Falcons are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the tenth game they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Kylie Specht was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Sidney Sharp was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Jordan pushed their record up to 14-2 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Riverside-Durham, their record is now 10-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Riverside-Durham hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Jordan struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Riverside-Durham couldn't quite get it done against Jordan when the teams last played on April 8th as they fell 12-9. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
