It was a good run, but the Gulliver Prep Raiders unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sagemont. While losing is never fun, Gulliver Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while Sagemont is ranked ninth).
Gulliver Prep lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jacob Marquez, who scored 17 points along with six steals. Marquez is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Another player making a difference was Jackson Mansfield, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Gulliver Prep's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Sagemont, they pushed their record up to 15-6 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season.
Gulliver Prep will head out on the road to face off against Benjamin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sagemont, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Archbishop McCarthy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
