The Western Boone Stars will square off against the Crawfordsville Athenians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Friday, Western Boone didn't have quite enough to beat Cascade and fell 4-3. The loss continues a trend for the Stars in their meetings with the Cadets: they've now lost six in a row.
Levi Stewart was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had over his last four matchups.
On the hitting side, Western Boone saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kahne Reid, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Crawfordsville). They never let Benton Central get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Friday. The Athenians not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since May 23, 2024 (when they won 10-0).
Braeden Schlote made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Sam Minnette was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jacob Lee, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Crawfordsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Crawfordsville pushed their record up to 6-7-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Western Boone, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
Western Boone might still be hurting after the 9-1 loss they got from Crawfordsville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Will the Stars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
