It was a good run, but the St. John's Islanders unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 93-29 loss at the hands of Military Magnet Academy. St. John's was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-18.
Jasmyne Robinson and Daeshia Buford certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Robinson dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds, while Buford scored 11 points along with four steals. Buford is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least four every time she's taken the court this season.
St. John's struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Military Magnet Academy racked up 23 assists.
Dream Watson was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 steals for Military Magnet Academy. Watson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 13 times she's played. Lauren Willis was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
St. John's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Military Magnet Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.
St. John's will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Cross at 6:00 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Buford and Lauren Middleton. As for Military Magnet Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Baptist Hill at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Military Magnet Academy is coming into the matchup with five straight wins on the road, so Baptist Hill is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
