Softball Recap: Pineville Snags Tenth Victory in Last 12 Games

Pineville hadn't done well against Lynn Camp recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Mountain Lions put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 6-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Mountain Lions, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Rachel Howard made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Monica Whitehead, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addison Slone, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.

Pineville has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Lynn Camp, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-16.

Coming up, Pineville will be playing in front of their home fans against Knox Central at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Mountain Lions surely won't give up without a fight. Lynn Camp does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
