Softball Recap: Silver Creek Extends Home Winning Streak to Nine

Silver Creek barely beat West Washington the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Dragons put the hurt on the Senators with a sharp 11-1 victory on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won eight contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Tessa Gibson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Kaitlyn Whitlock and Riley Whiteman did most of the damage at the plate: Whitlock went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Whiteman went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI Whiteman has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jazzy Calloway, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Silver Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Washington only posted a batting average of .182.

Silver Creek pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for West Washington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-2.

Silver Creek and West Washington should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Dragons will face off against Jeffersonville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (61 vs. 259). Meanwhile, West Washington (ranked 34th) will meet Crawford County (ranked 323rd) at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
