Bunn hasn't had much luck against Roanoke Rapids recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wildcats will face off against the Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Roanoke Rapids will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Bunn extended their winning streak to nine on Monday. Everything went the Wildcats' way against Nash Central as they made off with a 12-6 win.
Emily Baez made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Baez was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Madeline Bryson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Brooke Harrah was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Bunn hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 11 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Roanoke Rapids never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Rocky Mount with a sharp 17-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Yellowjackets.
Roanoke Rapids let Morgan Beam and Kyla Odom run wild. Beam went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Odom got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs Odom has posted since back in March. Brishawna Crumel also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Bunn's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Roanoke Rapids, their record is now 13-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bunn has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Roanoke Rapids struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Bunn came out on top in a nail-biter against Roanoke Rapids in their previous meeting two weeks ago, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
