Jailyn Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Piedmont's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Taylyn Steele, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Rockingham County challenged Ledford on Friday. The Cougars blew past the Panthers 9-0. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 18 matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Ava Grace Pruitt, who gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks to keep Ledford off the board.
On the hitting side, Kennidy Kirby was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Strittmatter, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Rockingham County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ledford only posted a batting average of .048.
Piedmont pushed their record up to 21-5 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Rockingham County, their record is now 22-1.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Piedmont hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .389. However, it's not like Rockingham County struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
