Spanish River and West Boca Raton are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but likely not for long. The Spanish River Sharks will head out to challenge the West Boca Raton Bulls at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Spanish River is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Wellington with a sharp 15-8 win on Wednesday. The Sharks not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 14th.
Andrew DeRosa made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Jesse Chimenti was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Sean Beaulieu was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Spanish River was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Boca Raton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Jupiter 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulls have posted since May 7, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Christian Fallacara-Saunders, who went 1-for-2 with one home run. He also scored a run, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Wilkins, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
West Boca Raton has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. Spanish River now has a winning record of 9-8.
Spanish River skirted past West Boca Raton 3-2 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spanish River since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
